Root Canal Therapy (Endodontic) - Why is a "root canal" needed? Extensive decay, trauma to a tooth, fracture, or gum disease can kill the nerve inside of a tooth. However, your teeth can be saved using modern "root canal" therapy, also called Endodontic. The prefix “endo- “means “inside " and the word ending "-dontics" means " teeth", so Endodontic has to do with treating the "inside of teeth".The inside of a tooth is like the inside of a candy tootsie pop. Inside every tooth's crown there is a hollow area that extends into each of the tooth roots. The hollow area in the root is called a "canal". Each "root canal" is cleaned out, widened, and filled during "root canal" therapy.

- Dental Cleaning
Dental Cleaning (prophylaxis) - in the absence of gum disease, most individuals should see a dentist or dental hygienist every 6 months to have the tartar deposits removed from their teeth. In combination with regular brushing and flossing at home, tartar removal will help prevent gum disease. - Oral Health Examinations
Oral health examinations - Every patient should be examined by a dentist regularly. We look carefully at your gums, jaw joint, teeth, and muscles. Besides looking for dental decay and gum disease, your dentist will screen for oral cancer and other oral signs of medical diseases.Frequent examinations helps identify early cavities and disease and will help reduce costly dental treatment such as root canals and crowns. Early treatment can help prevent pain and abscesses.
- X-rays
Dental X-rays - X-rays help detect dental decay in areas in between teeth where they most commonly occur. Without dental x-rays these areas of decay and other diseases of the surrounding tissues can go undetected. A failure to diagnose and treat these conditions before symptoms occur can threaten your oral and general health. An annual partial set of x-rays (4 -7 films) helps screen for bone loss, decay, infections in the bone, cysts and other bone diseases.Due to technological advances, dental x-rays require much less radiation than years ago. The effective dose of radiation that you receive from a complete set of dental x-rays (21 films) is 13 mrem. This is equivalent to about 19 days of exposure to naturally-occurring environmental radiation. For purposes of comparison it is useful to know that, according to federal and most state regulations, persons whose occupations involve some exposure to radiation are permitted to receive up to 5,000 mrem of whole body radiation per year. A full set of x-rays is usually recommended about every five years.
- Sealants
Sealants - Sealants are a simple procedure in which a tooth-colored resin coating is painted onto the biting surface of the tooth. They are highly effective in sealing the deep grooves where decay is most likely to start. Sealants can stay bonded for three to seven years. It is an excellent way to minimize the risk of cavities in the grooves of teeth where a tooth brush cannot reach. - Fluoride Treatments for Adults
Fluoride for adults - It is well documented that fluoride helps strengthen enamel and makes teeth less likely to decay. A lesser known benefit of some fluoride types is its antibacterial properties which are beneficial in treating gum disease. Patients with recent or chronic decay activity can benefit from a fluoride mega dose at your hygiene visit. For some patients a prescription dose fluoride may also be recommended for daily home use. - Fluoride Treatments for Children
Fluoride for children - Regular mega dose fluoride treatments are provided routinely to prevent decay in your children's baby and adult teeth. Up until about age 12, the enamel on your child's teeth is developing. It is during the early years of tooth development which can make a big difference on how strong, and decay-resistant their adult teeth will be. Thus it is important that fluoride be part of a child's diet. Fluoride from their toothpaste that they spit out is not a source that helps adult tooth development in the jaw bone because it is not swallowed.Your drinking water is usually a primary source of fluoride; however we have tested the amount of fluoride in many local communities including the cities of Everett, Lynwood and Marysville. The results show that there is less fluoride than is recommended by the American Dental Association. Thus, most children locally should have fluoride supplements (tablets) prescribed by your dentist. A water analysis of the fluoride at your home will determine the amount of supplements your child should have.

Desensitizing Varnishes - Hot and cold sensitive teeth often occurs when root surfaces become exposed. Gum recession and teeth grinding are common causes of sensitive teeth. A simple, pain free procedure can eliminate most sensitivity.
